Description
So like I mentioned before, I'm kinda getting tired of Crystal Gem OCs including my own. I was figuring out what to do with them and some people gave some suggestions on my latest poll and it triggered an idea I have a while ago involving their human selves. So I guess I'll be keeping all my SU OCs afterall... anyway, this is basically inspired by a mix of Steven Universe and Star Trek but still has a lot of my original ideas... I drew up these designs and came up with a basic backstory and plot...
Backstory: It's the year 2424, and after the discovery of other planets with different lifeforms, the countries of the word came together and formed the United Earth Nations to defend against invaders and to promote space exploration. Within the UEN is the United Space Armada, a branch of military that specializes in space defense, travel, and exploration. There are many different ranks of squadrons that do special jobs and some are more popular than others. Some are more involved in battle and some are involved in important scientist research, and then there's the Geode Squadron. The Geode is one of the lowest and most ridiculed in the whole Armada. The team usually consists of misfits, trouble makers, and rejects. Their main job is to go other planets to study and collects rocks... that's it... to be demoted to this squad was supposed to be a form of punishment and is used as an insult.
Plot: A spoiled princess named Idayimani is forced out her kingdom to be the new captain of the Geode Squadron. Under her leadership, the boring disrespected team becomes a band of intergalactic treasure hunters who travel the galaxy to find rare crystals and gems. They also go around and help people with their problems and eventually end up saving the galaxy from a villain who was planning on using the power of the precious gems to take over.
Title: Cosmic (like in space) Excavata (it's suppose to be Excavate, you know the thing archaeologists do when they're trying to dig up stuff... but I made it sound cooler...)
Symbol: A geode (an ugly rock that everyone doesn't like on the outside but on the inside it's a crystal that is beautiful, unique, and very special... the theme of this whole story, I suppose...)
Characters: (fyi, for their new names I just translated their gem names into other languages. ex. Idayimani is Diamond in Zulu and Saphir is Sapphire in French... and all of their personalities are still the same... and Ruby and Peridot went through some design changes with their hair)
Idayimani (Diamond) is a 18 year old South African princess. Her parents forced her out of her kingdom so she can experience the galaxy and live her life. She becomes the leader/captain of the Geode Squadron.
Saphir (Sapphire) is 20 years old and he is of North African descent. He is the lead pilot and weapons expert. He used to be a high ranking soldier but got demoted when he was caught selling illegal weapons on the black market to pay for his little sis' schooling.
Manika (Ruby) is 12 years old (kinda short) and is Saphir's little sis. She is a genius and the squad's Linguistics expert and cultural advisor (she knows a lot of languages). She was a top student at a academy for gifted children but was kicked out for her anger issues.
Olivin (Peridot) is 16 years old and from East Asian descent. He's the squad's medic and he's also an intergalactic diplomat (can make peace with other planets etc.). Also a student of the academy for gifted children in the field of medicine, but got kicked out for stealing medical supplies.
Aigua-Marina (Aquamarine) is 22 years old and from Latino descent. She's the squad's tech expert and also second in command. Used to be in the top technology research team in the Armada, but got demoted for reasons unknown.
Other things:
Watches on their wrists are used for communication as well as summoning their weapons. (All weapons are the same)
And yeah... I think that's all the basic information I got... It feels nice to recycle old OCs into something new and I always wanted to do a sci-fi kinda thing... If I had the persistence and will-power, I would probably make this into a original webcomic.... but nah... it's just gonna stay a concept for now...

Considering that peridot/olivin loves philosophy, why would he steal? Also, what did Manika do to get demoted? Did she beat someone to the point of possible death?
